After putting the 5th Oracle Update in (Last couple months), and UNCLICKING the "Install Ask Tool Bar" which makes Oracle $.25 for each one not UNCLICKD, I started to wonder. EVERY TIME they put out an update there SELLING a TOOL BAR UNBEKNOWN to YOU. Bad Software or a SALES GIMMICK.
I guess there the WORST Software writers ON THE PLANET. Microsoft FIRED Them effective Internet Explorer 10 which will not have JAVA or Adobe FLASH. (Steve Jobs FIRED Adobe & Java a couple years ago)

Verizon Customers I Unsterstand your Customer Service Problems

I'm SICK because of VERIZON. Everytime I have a need for VERIZON to change there Modems IP Address I have to FIGHT through there 2nd layer of support who are JUST AS BAD. What should take 5 Minutes is taking an HOUR, and that's REPEATING the Problem & the FIX.

Verizons SUPPORT is a MAJOR REASON to STAY AWAY from them. If I have to fight them just to get correct customer service I can only imagine what they do to you. NO OTHER telecom or High Speed Internet provider has such POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE CALL LINES.

The Techs LOCALLY are VERY GOOD and will fix your problems, it's the OVERSEAS CALL CENTER people (Can't call them techs) that are VERIZONS PROBELM.

I'm getting tired, real tired of software engineers changing the GUI but not really adding ANY new improvements to the programs. Microsoft likes to change the NAMES in the control Panel, SAME PROGRAMS just a DIFFERENT NAME. Google has started the same thing. G-Mail which worked perfectly good has been DUMMIED DOWN. Why?
Microsoft Office is virtually the same as it was in 2003, just different interfaces for each UPGRADE. C'mon, these programs are TOOLS and having to RELEARN where something has been moved is for school kids not business people.

Look at OPEN OFFICE, mostly the same with a few improvements. You sort of expect it when it's written as a "Labor of LOVE" not as a MONEY MAKING endeveaor.

I love Microsoft; they’ve treated my company Abacus Computer Repair/Data Recovery & I great. In college my Microsoft Classes were a fortune, and very hard. I got lucky and passed my first Microsoft Test and set up a Microsoft Shop. (Were Microsoft Partners)

Microsoft gives me the best support access available, 24 hours a day. Being a partner still makes me question things. Why not give a Microsoft Zune with car kit in your recent Vista promotion instead of a Creative 30 Gig Music Device? Microsoft is Microsoft, and your partners would love a new Zune.

Don’t tell me Apple has an edge, Microsoft’s Zune with the wireless to FM Radio feature is brilliant. I bet the IPods will get that feature soon. My company had to order one so we can Demo & Tech this device. Hopefully these will get to my suppliers soon.

I'll be writing fewer blogs in the next weeks, months. Microsofts new products are comming out early 07 and we must know them. Vista is awesome because of the many diagnostics, but we must know how to run them and read there results. The Command Line "Commands" are great, and by 2010 I should have mastered them. Only kidding, I'm actually now reading up on "chkntfs" & "schtasks" . This new OS is awesome and I really think that once the bugs are out, apple will be done. 20 viruses discovered this week in apples and no fixes??? Microsoft went through that faze and I really thing Vista is the answer to the spyware, viruses and hackers. There's so many improvements that I'll save them for a future blog.

Watch out, these little buggers can own your computer. One PC in today is being reformatted and all software is being reinstalled. Over 150 root kits were found. Be forwarned....... You Anti-Virus Will NOT see them. Nothing out there for quick scan and delete. You can go into the registry and delete them one by one, but when theres over 50, Formatting will guarantee you a clean PC. Right Now theres no other solution...

Maybe Changing the default password is the MOST IMPORTANT Wi-Fi Procedure

A recent article in information week titled Safe, Sound-And Wireless was good but not complete. All Routers come with a default username and password. All hackers know them by the default gateway.(linksys 192.168.1.1 admin & password are the usernames and password, 192.168.0.1 may be a D-Link with a admin & Admin as username and password. Before doing anything on your wireless or wired network is to change that password. Very Important !

Second: Do Not set your SSID using your name or other distinguishable names. They may be cute but it brings a hacker one step closer to the prey. If I'm looking for Attorney John Does router in his block, then a SSID shows up as DOE, then I'm pretty certain I'm going in the right direction.

Security costs performance. If your having trouble connecting using WEP or WPA try no security. Some Wireless recievers do not play well with routers. They require a 75% (4-5 bar) connection to get WEP or WPA to work. Be advised of this so you don't spend alot of hours reconnecting your wireless devices.

DO NOT USE Verizon & Brighthouse's install disks if possible!!!

Verizon & Brighthouse use a program called Motive Smartbridge. At best, this program slows your computer, at worst it's a spyware. This program does not need to be installed. If you are running Windows XP (and other Flavors) your computer is ready for networking. When you plug in your Ethernet cable into your computer, Microsofts Networking wizard comes up. Run that and your set.

The Automatic updates will automatically restart your computer ( losing ALL your work you were running). Just like AOL, Microsoft management shows no regard for there customers. The Do NOT TURN OFF THE COMPUTER UNTIL UPDATES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED is so AOL. Look at how many customers there losing daily.

Turn OFF Microsoft's Automatic Updates

In AOL tradition, Microsoft loves to restart YOUR computer anytime it wishes. The newest June update, after loading restarts your computer automatically. All work on your desktop is LOST. Lost describes Microsofts recent decisions about YOUR computer. For some reason Microsoft thinks it owns YOUR computer. TURN AUTOMATIC UPDATES OFF.

Remember AOL's "Downloading updates, We'll shut down YOUR computer when the updates are finished". Microsoft's doing the same thing. Everybody knows that AOL & Staff are PURE SCUM( Liars & Thieves), now MICROSOFT????????

CCleaner turns Yahoo Scummy

Compaq, Hewlett Packard, & now Dell?

Manufacturers of most computers are tending to put in more spyware/malware. HP/Compaq is the worst. Those computers are so riddled with malware that a debugging is needed before you start using it. The reasons these companies put this crap on your computer is Money. Plain & Simple. HP gets paid for putting on Wild Tangent, Fax Tools, etc. This really getting pretty sad. I would NEVER RECOMMEND a Compaq or HP because of this crap. Other manufacturers are almost as bad and now DELL has decided to do the same.
I love the HP/Compaq users because I know it’s another debug job. One client’s computer quit running programs after the spyware choked its life. A good ethical manufacturer realizes this and never puts in unneeded programs. HP/Compaq cleanup your act and your computers. Don’t send out spywared computers and expect your customers to come back. I tell them exactly who’s GREED got in the way of a good computer.

Dell, don't follow the path of HP/Compaq or you'll be the next PC company out of business.

11 Wireless Encrypted Networks in 4 days

Not a record but once you ad in file & Print sharing and all security, that's kicking butt. One client needed a A: drive so I maped here one off her kids PC. Pretty cool. Now she does Back ups from her Laptop to her Husbands desktop PC. 2 printers are shared by all computers.

Another job has the desktop as the print & fax server (2). The wife can sit on the couch or yard with NO wires to her laptop and can print and fax without ever having to get up. If one printer runs out of ink, she prints to the other printer. She backs up to the print server, so her data is always safe.

The power of a home network is remarkable. Share printers, scaners, external data disks, DSL, etc.

Microsoft's Wireless Setup is ALL you need.

Microsofts wireless configuration setup tool is awesome. The engineers who have worked on that did some smart configuration options that make this tool the only one to use. Your able to setup numerous different access points with unique and individual encryption types and codes. Most wireless users work on different networks. The MS Wireless tool alows for a one time setup where you are able to set network priorities. You turn your laptop on and watch as it checks your previously configured networks in the order you choose. Once it finds one it checks the encryption code and it's connected.

I reccomend using Microsofts Wireless setup tool exclusivley, uninstalling the ones that come with your wireless reciever. Worst case, disable it (recievers wireless setup) allowing for Microsofts to be the one you use.

I'm really disillusioned by what large companies think is ethical.
I remember a adware blasting site, Match Clip, or Match- Something. After awhile they lost revenue/visitors as more and more people avoided there site. This company tried to re-invent its self as a music download company but to no avail. Within 6 months they had to merge with someone before they were to be shuttered.
Webmasters have a duty to present good clean websites with the option of reading the ads. Any Webmaster/Company that forces content down my browser will not get my business. Doe's Google flash you with pop-ups? That's ethics, and that's the way my everyday business is run. Thanks Google, you've shown you can still make money being ethical.

Spyware

The new word or basically the bottomline for severly virused or spywared machines is a reformat/Reinstall. Most techs can't invest 15 hours to debug a machine and be absolutly sure that all is well again. Microsoft Security Officials now are admitting that the Reformat/Reinstall is the only way to assure a clean PC.

Microsoft Security went on to sugest that Spybot, Windows Defender, & RootKit Revealer be used. Windows Defender is a proactive protector while you need to run manual scans with the other products.

I ran microsofts RootKit finder (cmd /k scquery $sys$saries) at the command line, it found nothing. Running the RootKit Revealer I found a couple of instances.

If this RootKit Revealer is right on, My PC needs a reformat?????

Windows Media Player

Microsoft's done a great job with this gem. It's nice buying a CD, Ripping it to the harddrive, then burning a copy, and always having the flawless original. I quit buying music because I would get a scratch in the CD in a week, and usually many scratches. Now my $20 investment is safe forever.

The Windows media player easily lets me get whatever album I want and reburn it when ever. It keeps all music in the my music/my documents folder.
Using Roxio Software as the burning engine, it's quick. It's a shame my music dvd's aren't compatible with this player. Being able to rip the music off a Concert DVD would be great for the cars.

Scary, Scary

After recieving 30 computers from a un-named large company I was dismayed at what I found. It appeared to be a fully functional CD containing what could be sensative info. The .pst was intack meaning I could send and recieve mail, the authenication was allready in the .pst. The disk was from the Pelican Group, DOD????
I notified the large company, they compensated my company for returning the disks. This happened in 2 other computers. I know we're all busy but this???

It took 3 attempts to reach this company and report their problem.

Further reading of your article leads me to believe that Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Microsoft’s Spyware Beta will be of definite use to you. First signs of Spyware/Viruses are Printer Problems, and Network Connectivity issues. The need for increased Ram is a sure sign of Spyware/Virus infestations. That’s half our job now… Make sure the Malicious Software OS Update has been installed and run. Make sure you have E-Z Armor’s AntiVirus & Firewall installed. By using that firewall you can see what’s trying to get out much like “MSCONFIG”. I treat 4-8 computers a week whose updated Anti Virus Software didn’t hold up and had to be uninstalled and the E-Z Armor ran to clear ALL the Viruses. AVG & Mcaffe are the worst offenders. Try It, free download at the Microsoft Website. The Inspiron 1100 put me thru College and works 16 hours a day out in the field and office. Don’t blame the hardware for software issues. I always hear that the DSL/Broadband has caused the Spyware/Viruses. We both know it’s not so.

We're still reccomending EZ Armour. Awesome stuff. As we have more problems with Norton 2004 & 2005 on clients computers, we're sure of our decision. One clients Norton hung up on a .Net update resorting in a registry cleanup-debugging. This is happening with some regularity, and is exspesive to fix. Be Aware.
